Dr. Kelly Bailey is a physician scientist in the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the UPMC Children’s hospital of Pittsburgh and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is the Co-Director of the Mario Lemieux Institute for Pediatric Cancer Research.
Michelle went to the University of Connecticut for her B.S. in Physiology & Neurobiology. Michelle’s close friend and family member was diagnosed with recurrent sarcoma during college, which inspired Michelle to spend more time learning about sarcoma and trying to find ways she might make any difference for patients suffering with this malignancy.
Dr. Daley is a pediatric oncologist and junior faculty physician scientist with a focus on Ewing immunobiology and the role of radiation in modulating the Ewing tumor immune microenvironment. Dr. Daley is a CHP Scholars Program awardee and her long-term goal is to work as a physician scientist to improve outcomes for pediatric patients with sarcoma.
Sreya is an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh studying neuroscience as a major and minoring in music. Sreya was awarded a 2022 Summer Research Internship Program position at the Rangos Research Facility at UPMC Children’s in the Bailey laboratory. She is a dedicated researcher and continues on in the lab since that time.
Carolina is a research technician in the Bailey laboratory. Carolina received a Bachelor Science degree in Biotechnology Engineering (2011) at Escuela Politécnica del Ejército in Ecuador. She holds a master’s degree in Biochemistry Engineering (2017) at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso in Chile. Elina is the manager of the Bailey laboratory. Elina obtained her undergraduate degree from The University of Michigan. She holds a masters degree and is skilled in a wide range of in vitro and in vivo experimental techniques. She is an excellent teacher and the long-term heart of operations in the Bailey laboratory.
Shanthi Bhaskar is currently an undergraduate student at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Computational Biology. Shanthi works in the Bailey laboratory with Dr. Jessica Daley to investigate the role of TGF-beta on the immunobiology of Ewing tumors during radiation. Outside of science and school,
Alumni
Nivitha Periyapatna worked in the Bailey lab as an undergraduate student. Currently, she has a BS in Biological Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh and is pursing an MPH in Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. Nivitha plans to start medical school in the fall of 2023.
Rose Venier was a member of the Bailey lab while conducting her research while obtaining her masters in genetics counseiing at The University of Pittsburgh. She is currently a genetic counselor at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Her major role is with the SickKids Cancer Sequencing (KiCS) program.
